To acknowledge the importance of community-led endeavours, BHIVA created a community award in 2024 to support defined projects with the goal of supporting people living with HIV in the UK. In 2024, BHIVA allocated up to £30k for the BHIVA Laura Waters Community Awards, replacing previous ad hoc arrangements for donations and grants to other charities.
BHIVA received 16 applications from eligible charities, requesting a total of £134,673.
The review panel, chaired by Dr Carol Emerson, BHIVA trustee, recommended awards to five charities. This was endorsed by the BHIVA Executive Committee.
