Consultation on service specifications and clinical policies

13th December 2013

Consultation: December 12th 2012  – January 25th 2013

The proposed national service specification for HIV is now up for consultation on the NHS Commissioning Board Website until January 18th 2013.  HIV is service number B6a for the adult specification and B6b for paediatrics. Your views on this are very important as this is the document that will underpin HIV treatment and care commissioning for the future.

The service specifications and clinical commissioning policies are important in clearly defining what the NHS Commissioning Board (NHS CB) expects to be in place for providers to offer evidence-based, safe and effective services. They have been developed by specialised clinicians, expert patients and public health representatives to describe core and developmental service standards. Core standards are those that any reasonable provider of safe and effective services should be able to demonstrate, with developmental standards being those that really stretch services over time to provide excellence in the field.
