BHIVA produces a range of publications which reflect the association’s main objectives of promoting both good clinical practice and research in the treatment of HIV infection and HIV related illness as well as advancing medical education through the dissemination of research findings.

The association also acts as a national advisory body to other professions and organisations including government on all aspects of HIV care. In achieving its objective BHIVA publishes a range of papers including clinical guidelines, reports of audit findings, clinical standards documents, the medical research journal HIV Medicine and policy and advisory papers.
 

Audit reports and published papers
BHIVA undertakes an annual national programme of clinical audit supervised by the audit and clinical standards sub-committee. BHIVA publishes an annual audit report and makes available on line the findings and recommendations of individual audits as well as peer reviewed papers of audit results.

BHIVA Members Matters
Members Matters is a document that is sent out via email on a regular basis to keep members up to date with the work of the Association.  It includes updates on conferences and guidelines as well as the work of the various BHIVA committees.

Clinical Guidelines
Since the 1990s, BHIVA has been producing clinical guidelines for the management of HIV infection, which, while primarily intended for the use of UK physicians, have international influence. The guidelines encompass not only treatment with antiretroviral therapy but also specific guidelines on adherence, the management of TB and hepatitis B, and C co-infected individuals, transplantation, immunisation, malignancy, opportunistic infections, reproductive and sexual health, and pregnancy.

Clinical Standards
As part of BHIVA’s objective to promote good clinical practice, the society in association with the Royal College of Physicians, the British association for Sexual Health and HIV and the British infection society published ‘standards for HIV care’ (2007).

HIV Medicine
HIV Medicine is the official journal of the British HIV Association (BHIVA) and the European AIDS Clinical Society (EACS), and is published by Blackwell Publishing. HIV Medicine is a peer-reviewed journal publishing original articles, reviews and guidelines on all aspects of HIV treatment and diagnosis. The journal is specifically aimed at researchers and clinicians with responsibility for treating HIV-infected persons. Policy and consultation papers
