BHIVA welcomes investment in research and technology

Wednesday 10 July 2024

The British HIV Association (BHIVA) welcomes yesterday’s statement from the Health and Social Care Secretary, Wes Streeting, at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, in which he reflects the Government’s commitment to making Britain “a powerhouse for life sciences and medical technology.”

It is robust, evidence-based science, developed through well-funded research, that has led to the dramatic improvements in care and treatment for HIV today, transforming it from a terminal illness to a life-long, but manageable, condition. People with HIV now have a normal life expectancy, and better health related quality of life, with choices like everyone else, including playing a fulfilling role in society. The UK is a global leader in HIV management and research, and we look forward to seeing further commitment and investment to support innovation and progress in the years ahead.
