BHIVA response

"BHIVA strongly deplores this attempt to impose immigration restrictions on persons based on their HIV status.

HIV is now a treatable chronic medical condition with an excellent prognosis when correctly treated.

The public health implications of further stigmatising HIV through this proposed amendment will deter vulnerable groups in society from seeking testing and accessing health care.

This would significantly impair our efforts to control the spread of this infection."
