The British HIV Association (BHIVA) announces - 'Health and HIV' - a collaboration with ITN Productions Industry News

Monday 27 July 2020

LAUNCH: WORLD AIDS DAY, 1 DECEMBER 2020

The British HIV Association (BHIVA) and ITN Productions Industry News are co-producing ‘Health and HIV,’ a news-style programme amplifying voices from leaders in HIV healthcare and the community, for World Aids Day and beyond.

AIDs first hit the headlines in the early 1980’s as a deadly disease when an HIV diagnosis was considered a death sentence. Since then, medical developments have advanced greatly, as have people’s attitudes. However, four decades on there is still a need for innovation, strategic direction, advocacy and partnerships at a national and global level to make a world without AIDS a reality.

Anchored by an ITN Productions Industry News presenter, “Health and HIV” aims to deliver engaging and informative content from raising awareness of HIV prevention methods, to analysis of effective HIV treatments, transformative research and challenging stigma.

The programme will feature key medical opinion leaders, researchers and industry innovators, as well as perspectives from those living with HIV and affected by the virus, in order to increase the understanding of challenges faced and the progress being made at a national and global level.

“Health and HIV” will be streamed internationally across multiple digital platforms as part of World Aids Day on 1 December 2020. The programme will combine key sector interviews, news items and sponsored editorial profiles, giving institutions, organisations and companies the opportunity to show how they are driving progress in the HIV sector on World Aids Day and in the wider campaign.

Dr Laura Waters, Chair, British HIV Association commented: “It is so important that the huge progress we've made in HIV treatment and prevention is given as wide a platform as possible! This programme with ITN productions will not only highlight how far we have come but will also help to dispel some of the enduring myths about HIV.”

Elizabeth Fisher-Robins, Head of ITN Productions Industry News said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with the British HIV Association to produce a programme in which we hope to highlight the realities of living with HIV in Britain today, recognise the latest medical developments and provide a platform to stimulate discussion on issues such as stigma, as well as celebrating the success stories.”
