Gala Dinner
This year's Gala Dinner was an impressive event held at St George's Hall in the city centre. This beautiful building provided our delegates with the perfect venue to enjoy the final evening of the conference. The event started with a drinks reception, which was followed by an excellent dinner. Dr David Asboe and Dr Jan Clarke thanked Dr Daniel Richardson (BASHH Conferences Secretary) and the conference Local Hosts, Dr Mark Lawton and Dr Alastair Miller for all their hard work and efforts in putting the conference together. Dr Asboe was given a special thank you in his role as chair of the Joint Conference Committee. The entertainment from the live band proved a big hit in bringing everyone to the dance floor.

Prizes and Awards
As has become customary at BHIVA and BASHH conferences, outstanding quality research was reflected in the oral and poster presentations. Of the 526 abstracts submitted, 492 were selected - 45 as oral presentations and 447 as poster presentations. This was the highest number of both submitted and accepted abstracts at a BHIVA or BASHH conference.
The AbbVie Travelling Scholarships in collaboration with BHIVA and St Stephen's AIDS Trust
AbbVie, in collaboration with the British HIV Association (BHIVA) and the St Stephen's AIDS Trust (SSAT), have set up an exchange scholarship for practising HIV doctors, under 35 years of age from developing and transition countries, to travel to the UK for training purposes. The objective was to increase their understanding of the treatment and management of HIV in the UK and to disseminate this information and experience when they return to their country of origin.
In exchange, scholars from the UK (SpR or StR grade) travelled to the home country of a winning overseas applicant in order to take part in a placement at an HIV centre or hospital.
4 x Winners:
Left to Right: Dr David Asboe, Dr Sadat Quoraishi (AbbVie Representative), Dr John Matsekete (Zimbabwe), Dr Alexandra Teleka (Malawi), Dr Jan Clarke, Dr Subathira Dakshia (Barts Health NHS Trust, London) and Dr Alex Salam (Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London).
MSD International Travel Bursaries
MSD have provided a grant to support travel scholarships for 8 UK-based consultants and non-consultant healthcare professionals (including doctors, nurses, pharmacists and non-clinical researchers) who are working in the field of HIV medicine. This enabled the winning applicants to travel to the recent CROI Conference in Boston, USA, in March 2014, and each award contributed towards the winner's registration fee, travel costs and accommodation expenses. The winners of the award this year were as follows:
Mediscript Awards in collaboration with BHIVA/BASHH
