6.0 Clinical audit

Compliance with these guidelines should be audited both within clinics, and in the UK as a whole. The following questions are recommended as examples for use in clinical audit:

  1. Does your clinic have an individual/individuals with a specific remit for encouraging/maintaining adherence? (Specify: physician, nurse, pharmacist, psychologist, patient advocate, other)
  2. Which tools are used for assessing adherence within your clinic?
  3. Of patients on antiretroviral therapy, what proportion of patients’ notes include an assessment of adherence in the past three months?
  4. For patients beginning a new antiretroviral regimen, what proportion of patients’ notes include an assessment of adherence within the first month following initiation?
  5. Of patients on antiretroviral therapy, what proportion have seen another member of the multi-disciplinary team to discuss aspects of their treatment adherence?
  6. Does your clinic have a written policy on antiretroviral treatment adherence?
