About the awards

BHIVA is pleased to announce that the 2008 award is now open.

The closing date for online applications is 4 July 2008.

The BHIVA Research Award is intended for research projects that do, or may impact on the improvement of clinical care and management of people living with HIV in the UK.

Eligibility and Conditions

The award is open to any BHIVA member working on HIV disease in any capacity. Laboratory studies are included, as well as clinical and related projects. It is open to both medically and non-medically qualified BHIVA members. Up to £20,000 per annum is available, to be distributed among the successful applicants according to the quality of the submitted proposals, with a maximum of £10,000 award per application.

The award is intended to support operational costs, expenses (equipment and/or consumables) and essential travel but not salaries. Full details of costs are required, including details of other sources of funding. The successful applicants are expected to submit a formal report at the end of the study and, in addition, present the results at one of the biannual BHIVA conferences, subject to acceptance in the programme. Awards will be made payable to institutions rather than individuals and any awards not taken up within 6 months will be lost and given to the next choice, if appropriate, or retained by BHIVA.

If you are not a BHIVA member, please complete the BHIVA membership application form and allow 10 days for your application to be processed. You will need your BHIVA members’ website login and password in order to submit a BHIVA Research Award application.

Judging

The BHIVA Education and Scientific Subcommittee will review and judge the submissions. In addition to the members of the Subcommittee, the Judging Panel will invite external reviewers as required to provide the necessary expertise to judge the applications, and will be led by an independent chair. To avoid any conflict of interest, judges will not review applications from colleagues working in the same institution.
