UK-based specialist registrars or newly-appointed consultants (within the first 5 years of appointment) working in the field of infectious diseases were invited to apply.
The exchange scholarship enabled winning applicants to travel to Buenos Aires to take part in a placement at an Infectious Diseases Unit for up to 2 weeks. The programme provided a unique opportunity to increase understanding and to gain experience of the treatment and management of infectious diseases overseas and for scholars to disseminate this information and experience when they returned to the UK.
In exchange, a scholar from Argentina travelled to the UK to take part in a placement at an infectious diseases unit. Winning UK applicants were responsible for organising the placement of the oversees exchange scholar at their hospital and for sourcing suitable accommodation for their stay.
