The Margaret Johnson Best Oral Research Presentation

This prize will be awarded to the presenter of the best oral research presentation during the conference. All oral research presentations will be judged by a BHIVA-appointed oral research judging panel, and to be eligible for this prize the presenter must be of junior grade (sub-consultant or equivalent). The prize will be presented at the Prizes and Awards Ceremony on Friday 20 April.
The Ian Williams Best Poster Presentation

This prize will be awarded to the presenter of the best poster research presentation during the conference. All poster research presentations will be judged by a BHIVA-appointed poster research judging panel, and to be eligible for this prize the presenter must be of junior grade (sub-consultant or equivalent). The prize will be presented at the Prizes and Awards Ceremony on Friday 20 April.
Best SpR Case Presentations

Prizes will be awarded to the presenter of the best case presentations as part of the BHIVA Lunchtime SpR Case Presentations Workshops. Applications must be received by 10 February 2012. The prizes will be presented at the Prizes and Awards Ceremony on Friday 20 April.

Commended Poster Presentations

Up to 15 awards will be presented in recognition of the best poster research presentations during the conference. All poster research presentations will be judged by a BHIVA-appointed poster research judging panel. The prizes will be awarded at the end of Thursday 19 April. The awards will be acknowledged during the Prizes and Awards Ceremony on Friday 20 April.
Mediscript Awards in collaboration with BHIVA

Two prizes will be awarded for the best oral or poster research presentation during the conference in the field of social sciences and community-based work. The awards will be presented at the Prizes and Awards Ceremony on Friday 20 April.
BHIVA Science Scholarships

Science Scholarships are available for researchers and scientists wishing to attend the conference who submit an abstract that is accepted for oral or poster presentation. Up to 10 awards will be available to medical students undertaking research or to those studying for a PhD, MD or other similar post-graduate qualification. The scholarship will cover the registration fee, a contribution of a maximum of £100 towards travel expenses, and accommodation will be provided for a maximum of three nights (17–19 April). To apply, please tick the appropriate box when submitting your abstract online, indicating that you wish to apply for a Science Scholarship. In addition, written confirmation is required of your student status and this should be outlined when submitting your abstract. All applications must be received by 20 January 2012. All applicants will be notified during the week commencing 6 February 2012 as to whether their application has been successful.
BHIVA Community Registration Support

Community registration places are limited and will be allocated as fairly as possible, in principle on a first-come, first-served basis, and up to a maximum of two registrations per community group. The award covers registration for the conference only. The deadline to receive applications is 20 January 2012. Please note that it is essential applications are received by this due date in order for them to be considered for support. To apply for a community registration place please register online via the conference website, selecting the category ‘Community’, or alternatively, download a Community Registration form from the website (this will be available shortly) and fax or post this to the Conference Organisers. If your organisation has not registered for BHIVA conferences previously, then your form needs to be accompanied by a brief résumé of the aims and objectives of your organisation on headed paper. Please note that it is necessary for community registrants to purchase a Gala Dinner ticket if they wish to attend this event.
BHIVA Community Scholarships

Community Scholarships will be awarded to UK-based community workers to attend the conference. Up to 10 awards will be available to applicants who are affiliated with an HIV treatment, research, vaccine information or education organisation and who are actively involved in community treatment and prevention, education or training. In addition, successful applicants need to have a viable plan to share what was learned at the conference, particularly with other treatment and research educators. Only one award per organisation will be granted. The scholarship will cover the conference registration fee, a contribution of a maximum of £100 towards travel expenses, and accommodation will be provided for a maximum of three nights (17–19 April). Please apply online selecting the category ‘Scholarships’ and provide a written statement of how you will meet the above criteria. Abbott Young Physicians’ Travelling Scholarships in collaboration with BHIVA and St Stephen’s AIDS Trust

Abbott will be providing scholarships to practising HIV doctors from resource-poor countries to travel to the UK for training purposes. The objective is to increase their understanding of the treatment and management of HIV and to disseminate this information and experience when they return to their country of origin. All applicants must have a good understanding of English and a demonstrable benefit from attending the conference. Successful candidates' outward and return travel to the UK will be supported. Candidates will be invited to participate in a training programme, which will run for approximately three weeks and include a placement at a UK centre, as well as attendance at the 18th Annual Conference of BHIVA.
MSD International Travel Bursaries in collaboration with BHIVA

We are pleased to announce the launch of the 2012 travel bursary schemes for the 19th CROI conference to be held in Seatle, USA, and the XIX IAS conference to be held in Washington DC, USA. Scholarships have been provided to assist UK-based newly appointed consultants (within first five years of appointment) and non-consultant healthcare professionals (including doctors, nurses, pharmacists and non-clinical researchers) who are either training or working in the field of HIV medicine.
